I love to travel! Many of my recent trips have revolved around experiences, rather than places. Trekking to Mount Everest Base Camp, hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, a Street Food Tour on the back of a motorcycle in Vietnam, and summiting Mount Kilimanjaro. These experiences have created lasting memories that will stay with me forever. They have allowed me to get to know a variety of people from differing cultures around the world. Understanding these cultures is the first step to making the world a better place. I was honored to have been selected as one of G Adventure’s first Ambassadors of Change in 2017 and love spreading the message that travel and tourism can be transformative forces for good in our world.
The United Nations supports "Sustainable Tourism”. They identify three pillars of sustainability; economic, social, and environmental. Through travel, we can have a substantial impact in all three of these areas. By staying at locally owned hotels, eating at locally owned restaurants, and using local tour guides, not only do we get a more immersive authentic experience when we travel, but we also provide much needed income to the communities we visit. Let’s all become travelers not tourists, come home with more memories than pictures, and leave the communities we visit better off than before we arrived.
